UK Bank Holidays

The eight UK bank holidays in England and Wales — and the regional differences.

England and Wales have eight bank holidays a year: New Year's Day (1 January), Good Friday, Easter Monday, the Early May bank holiday (first Monday in May), the Spring bank holiday (last Monday in May), the Summer bank holiday (last Monday in August), Christmas Day (25 December) and Boxing Day (26 December).

Scotland has nine bank holidays — it adds 2 January and St Andrew's Day (30 November) but does not include Easter Monday. Northern Ireland has ten — it adds St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne anniversary (12 July). When a bank holiday falls on a weekend, the following Monday is usually substituted.

You may be asked how many bank holidays there are in England, what is celebrated on 26 December (Boxing Day), or which UK nation marks 12 July.
